The South African government has just applied for a warrant to arrest Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, if he ever steps foot in South Africa.
This move is coming on the heels of a legal application made by opposition party, Democratic Alliance, to coerce the government into complying with an order from the International Criminal Court, ICC.
The order had stated that President Putin should be arrested, in connection with the reported abduction of children from Ukraine.
Recall that on Wednesday, July 19, the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, had affirmed that Putin would not be attending a Brics Summit in Johannesburg that was scheduled to hold in August, further ending months of guesswork about his (Putin’s) plans.
