Spurs of Tottenham Hotspur sealed a thrilling 4-3 win over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to complete the final EFL Cup semi-final berth.
Dominic Solanke opened the scoring in the 15th minute, pouncing on Altay Bayındır’s poor parry of Pedro Porro’s long-range effort. Both teams struggled to dominate the remainder of the half, with Christian Eriksen seeing two shots blocked by Yves Bissouma, while Dejan Kulusevski’s narrow-angle strike was denied by Bayındır.
Early in the second half, Spurs stretched that advantage as a poor clearance by Lisandro Martínez allowed Kulusevski to stroll in for a simple finish. Soon after, Solanke added his second with a clinical strike, racing onto Djed Spence’s lofted pass to put the hosts 3-0 up.
However, Spurs’ ill-judged decisions in the backline almost had them pay a costly price. Forster’s misplaced pass allowed Fernandes to play in Zirkcee, whose eventual shot was chased down by an energetic Amad Diallo for 3-2. Son Heung-min had the icing on the cake with a corner that directly sailed into the back of the net, but an upright Jonny Evans placed an upright header to keep United alive until the final whistle. Despite the nervy finish, Spurs held on for a place in the semi-finals and left United to lament defensive errors.
