The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) officially kicked off on Friday, May 9, with its much-anticipated Cultural Day event, setting the stage for a weekend of glitz and celebration of African storytelling.

The vibrant gathering, held in Lagos, Nigeria, brought together celebrities from film, television, and reality TV who proudly showcased their stunning traditional outfits. The event seamlessly blended rich African heritage with the glamour associated with the prestigious awards.

Among the stars who stole the spotlight were BBNaija alumni Wanni x Handi, Fairme David, Saga, and Liquorose. Also in attendance were Nollywood favorites like Mercy Aigbe, Adedimeji Lateef and his wife Mo Bimpe, as well as on-air personality Dotun, and several other notable figures.

Organised annually by Multichoice, the AMVCA honours outstanding achievements in African film, television, digital content creation, and entertainment. The grand award ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, and will be broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels.

This year’s nominations, announced on March 23, span a variety of categories including Best Writing in a TV Series, Best Documentary, Best Scripted Series, Best Digital Content Creator, and Best Unscripted M-Net Original.

Top-nominated projects include Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way, all of which secured multiple nods across major categories such as Best Movie and Best Director.

In the acting categories, Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising) are contenders for Best Lead Actor. Competing for Best Lead Actress are Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), and Uche Montana (Thinline).

Winners will be determined through a combination of public votes and decisions by a panel of industry experts.
