A Tanzanian student previously reported to have been abducted by Hamas in Israel is now confirmed dead, according to the Tanzanian government.

Prior to his death, Joshua Mollel had been an agricultural intern at a kibbutz which was ambushed by Hamas gunmen on 7 October.

Tanzania’s Foreign Minister, January Makamba disclosed that Mr Mollel was killed immediately after he was held captive.

Fellow student, Clemence Felix Mtenga had also been killed in the attack.

“We have notified Joshua’s father, Loitu Mollel about the death of his son,” Makamba has said in a statement but the family has yet to comment on the issue.

The two murdered Tanzanian students had travelled to Israel just a month before the ill-fated 7 October attack. It was originally said that they were among the 240 people that were abducted by Hamas.

Tanzania officials have revealed that about 350 Tanzanians live in Israel, most of them being students pursuing agricultural-related courses.
