Taylor Swift paid the city of New York more than $160,000 for an event permit tied to her Madison Square Garden nuptials last week, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Friday.
“Taylor Swift will be paying, has paid already, the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event, and for the response to that event,” Mamdani said at a press conference.
The permit covered city resources needed to pull off the high-profile event, including New York Police Department deployments to manage street closures and traffic in the areas surrounding Madison Square Garden. The NYPD deployed dozens of officers for the event.
Ahead of the festivities, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the department would “have a detail in place.” The NYPD also announced multiday street closures impacting pedestrian and vehicular traffic around Madison Square Garden, as well as limited access to Moynihan Train Hall and Penn Station.
A Star-Studded Guest List
The superstar couple wed on July 3 in a ceremony officiated by actor and comedian Adam Sandler. The event included more than 1,000 guests.
Swift’s brother Austin served as her “man of honor,” while Kelce’s brother Jason served as his best man. They were the only members of the wedding party.
Celebrities including actors Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, and Jason Sudeikis; singer Benson Boone; soccer legend Abby Wambach; and NFL stars Chris Jones and Cooper Kupp were photographed arriving at Madison Square Garden in black-tie attire.
Charity Before the ‘I Dos’
Ahead of the wedding, Kelce and Swift donated $26 million to several charities, a representative for Swift confirmed. One of the charities, Answer The Call, is a New York City organization focused on supporting families of police and firefighters killed in the line of duty.
