South Korea’s military force had fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line close to their shared border on Tuesday. This was revealed by the country’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

According to reports by a JCS official, about 20 to 30 soldiers crossed the line by 20 meters (65 feet) inside the demilitarised zone early Tuesday and briefly moved back north after warning shots were fired by the South.

The official, however does not think the breach was intentional.

North Korea’s military had been conducting various activities along the frontline including dispatching soldiers and planting landmines.

Tragically, some of the soldiers had sustained multiple casualties while working due to the explosion of landmines in the demilitarised zone.

What They’re Saying

“The South Korean military … is closely tracking the activities of the North Korean military in the frontline area as well as working closely with the United Nations Command,” the JCS official was quoted as saying in a statement.

Seoul officials had also reported that just last week, South Korea’s military fired warning shots after around 20 North Korean soldiers momentarily crossed the border.

This incident is coming as Russian President Vladimir Putin visits North Korea tomorrow and tomorrow, Wednesday for the first time in 24 years.
