Marc-André Ter Stegen has got back the captaincy of Barcelona after settling a dispute with the club about access to his medical records.
The German goalkeeper, who had a back surgery earlier this summer, had initially refused Barcelona a permission to check his medical details.
His public repeated statements about a three-month absence contradicted the club’s four-month expectation, which in turn was the time for them to carry out a temporary wages removal from the La Liga salary cap and use the freed space for registering new players.
Barcelona saw Ter Stegen’s refusal as being incompatible with the figure of a captain and consequently, the armband was stripped from him.
However, after talks and a statement from Ter Stegen in which he elucidated his position, the dispute is now behind them.“The Club declares that the player Marc-André Ter Stegen has given the authorisation that is necessary for the Club to send La Liga the medical report that refers to his operation.”, this is part of the statement.
“The disciplinary case of the player is now closed and the player is the captain again with immediate effect.”If his time away is finally agreed to be four months, Barcelona could use the salary relief to register new signings Joan García, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji, as well as pending contract renewals.
