Just few days after the shocking and deadly Christmas Day attacks on Bokkos, another community has come under attack in the same Local Government on Thursday night.
Mr Monday Kassah, the Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos, revealed that marauders struck the community at night razing and destroying homes.
Kassah further explained that no death was recorded owing to the hasty intervention of security officers.
The committee chairman, while giving an update on the Christmas Day attack had explained that the number of casualties was still at 195, further confirming that rescue operations were still ongoing, to find missing persons.
Out of the death toll number, 148 were butchered in Bokkos LGA, 19 in Mangu LGA, and 27 in Barkin Ladi.
About 1,290 houses were razed down in Bokkos council, one house was burnt in Mangu LGA and the number of houses destroyed in Barkin Ladi was yet to be ascertained as at this time.
Amnesty International has criticised the government in the aftermath of the attacks, saying that the Nigerian authorities have constantly failed to end the continuous deadly attacks on rural communities of Plateau state.”
Plateau State has been riddled for several years by religious and ethnic strife.
The competition for natural resources between nomadic herders and farmers have intensified by the rapid population growth and climate pressures, sparking social tensions and violence in the area.
