You probably clicked the link to this article because you’re curious and you want to find out how to curate your wardrobe and become a fashionista in 2024.
You’re at the right place, dear reader. Just like you, I have decided to level up my fashion game in the incoming year. And the most important tip to do this is to have an all-round wardrobe staple.
Until recently, I believed that building a wardrobe would be so complicated and expensive, however, I’ve learnt some clever tips (that I’d be sharing with you) to help me curate a wardrobe that will match the style and aesthetic that I’m going for, as well as my budget and lifestyle.
Having a variety of pieces that you want to wear, and that is able to also create countless combinations can be quite empowering.
Here are some ways you can build your versatile wardrobe:
1. Stock Your Wardrobe with the Basics:
The “basics” here refers to essential, often solid colored, must-have items that can be used for layering. They can include:
Romper:
Wardrobe items like a black romper can be turned into a casual beachwear with fun accessories and layers or pair it with high heels and the right accessories for a wedding or special occasion.
Denim:
Quality denim jeans or shorts work well for various outfits while still maintaining your classic look. A denim jacket is also good to have if you want to switch up your style to street wear.
T-shirts:
Add a few solid color shirts to your wardrobe. For some variety, consider adding a one or graphic tees to your selection.
Skirt:
I’d suggest you have varying lengths for this item. Invest in short skirts and maxi skirts.
2. Have Several Footwear Options
Believe it or not, your shoes can make or mar your outfit. For starters, consider adding a pair of sandals, flats, or sneakers to your wardrobe.
Also, add a pair of boots or wedges to help you create elite looks.
3. Accessorize Your Outfits
This is one of the easiest ways to remake your look over and over again. Some accessories you can use to breathe new life into your outfit are: Jewelry and Sunglasses, Hair Accessories and Hats, Belts and Scarves.
4. Establish Your Style
Establishing a sense of style before hand can act as a guide for curating your outfit. If you’re going for a streetwear look with class, then opt for graphic tees with denim and heels or boots. Experiment with a few looks that you really enjoy so you can find likely patterns in the outfits. Try to identify the styles that appeal to you most and use it as a blueprint for selecting your foundational outfits and accessories.
Lastly, find your signature ‘thing’. It doesn’t have be an outfit. It could be an accessory, or a footwear, or the way you style your clothes. Always keep in mind that you can have multiple signatures, none, and you are free to frequently change them as much as you want. Feel free to play around with different themes until you find what uniquely makes you, you.
