The European Union Election Observation Mission’s Chief to Nigeria, Mr. Barry Andrews, has declared that the mission will only be observing and not interfering in the February 25 and March 11 elections.
Barry had made the declaration known at a press briefing held on Monday, 30 January in Abuja to talk about the purpose of the Mission in Nigeria.
As part of his speech, he said the EU EOM mandate was to observe every aspect of the electoral process involved in the country.
The envoy also revealed that the Electoral Act 2022 had launched brand new measures focused on enhancing various aspects of the conduct of elections.
According to Barry, for the first time in Nigeria, the mission had a dedicated Election Technology Analyst who will assess the use of technologies, particularly the verification of voters and the transmission of results.
“A Media analyst and a Social Media analyst will assess the role of the traditional media, together with social media and digital communication during the process.”
