The Socialist Party of Nigeria, SPN has blasted the present socio-economic hardship imposed on the working citizens of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and has called for mass resistance to reverse the situation.
In Nigeria, at present, it is extremely hard for the ordinary man to access cash (both old and new) for their daily transactions, a situation that has compounded the already agonizing situation that the country has been plunged into with the several months of acute petrol scarcity and its ever-increasing price.
These two key situations have worsened the pre-existing cost of living crisis in Nigeria.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, February 4, which was jointly signed by Abiodun Bamigboye, Acting National Chairperson, and Chinedu Bosah, the National Secretary, the SPN declared that it was welcoming the several protest actions that have sprung up in some cities across the country but were condemning the violent attacks on bank premises, officials or premises.
The statement had read partly; “We urge all trade unions and pro-masses organizations to provide coordination and leadership to the protests by launching a program of mass activities including the protests and a 24-hour general strike to demand the immediate three-month extension of the banknote hand-over period and an adequate provision of PMS at the current official price.”
