In a recent development that captures the essence of democracy and its empowering nature, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, an aspirant from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the governorship of Edo State, has addressed widespread rumors about his exclusion from the race. Despite this being his third attempt at the governorship, Ize-Iyamu expressed confidence in his candidacy and his ongoing involvement in the electoral process.
The rumors, which suggested that a screening panel led by Prof Julius Ihonvbere had narrowed the field of candidates, were swiftly dismissed by Ize-Iyamu. According to reports, this panel had approved only six aspirants, leaving 23 others, including Ize-Iyamu, supposedly out of the race. However, the aspirant clarified the situation upon his arrival at Benin Airport, where he was greeted by a gathering of supporters and APC leaders.
Ize-Iyamu emphasized that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC had issued a statement ensuring that all governorship aspirants were free to purchase nomination forms. This directive from the party’s highest authority effectively dispels the notion that any aspirant has been prematurely excluded from the upcoming primaries.
In addition to addressing these rumors, Ize-Iyamu spoke about his relationship with Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a prominent figure in the APC and a respected leader in Edo State. Describing their relationship as cordial and respectful, Ize-Iyamu highlighted the long-standing professional and personal bond they share. He acknowledged Oshiomhole as both a senior brother and a significant leader within the party.
Looking ahead, Ize-Iyamu reassured his supporters of his commitment to the governorship race. He plans to officially express his interest by purchasing the necessary forms soon, bolstered by the belief that any citizen of Edo is worthy of contesting for the governorship. He also assured his supporters that their faith in him would not be misplaced, despite the inevitable challenges and speculations that arise in any electoral contest.
