Coming back in 2008, the Oklahoma City Thunder are NBA champions for the first time, defeating the Indiana Pacers 103-91 in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals on Sunday. The Thunder won their second franchise title thanks in part to league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 43-series victory.
Gilgeous-Alexander finished a historic season in which he also took the scoring title and regular season MVP to win Finals MVP honors with 29 points. He was the first player ever to win those three awards as well as several Game 7s in a single campaign. Since Michael Jordan, his 3,172 combined points in 2024–25 are the most.
Rookie Chet Holmgren had 18 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks while Jalen Williams added 20 points. Holmgren also became the youngest player since Tim Duncan to register at least 10 blocks in an NBA Finals series.
Though Indiana led 48-47 at halftime, an early injury cost star guard Tyrese Haliburton never recovered. The Thunder never turned back after a 34-20 thirdquarter sprint.
The Seattle SuperSonics, Oklahoma City’s lone former title came in 1979.
