Tinubu Commends National Assembly for Backing Rivers Emergency

President Bola Tinubu has commended the National Assembly for its “decisive and patriotic ratification” of the state of emergency proclamation in Rivers State. He described the move as a crucial step toward restoring stability in Rivers State, following a prolonged political crisis that disrupted governance and posed a threat to national economic security for over 15 months.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu applauded the National Assembly for prioritizing security, stability, and governance in Rivers State, rather than partisan considerations.

The President specifically praised the leadership of the National Assembly for its careful review of classified security briefings before making the decision. He also stated that the six-month emergency period would allow the newly appointed Sole Administrator to restore stability in Rivers State, tackle systemic governance failures, and establish a framework for political reconciliation.
