President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his worries over the political situation in Gabon and the socio-political stability in that country following the military takeover.
Tinubu’s reaction had come several hours after certain Gabonese military officers appeared on television early Wednesday morning, August 30 to broadcast that they were putting a stop to the current regime and revoking an election that President Ali Bongo Ondimba won, according to official results.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, had while speaking with State House correspondents, expressed Tinubu’s conviction that the rule of law and an unwavering recourse to the constitutional resolution of electoral disputes was not to be allowed to dissolve in Africa.
In Ngelale’s words, President Bola Tinubu was at present, watching the developments in Gabon very closely with intense worry for the country’s sociopolitical stability and the seeming autocratic contagion currently advancing across the different regions of the African continent.
Ngelale also stated that Tinubu had stated that the rule of law and a faithful recourse to constitutional resolutions and instruments of electoral dispute resolution must not at any time be allowed to perish from our great continent.
