Since December 2023, beauty aficionados and newbies alike have been predicting the beauty trends that might takeover the industry in 2024.
From TikTok to Pinterest, beauty bloggers everywhere have given their takes on what they expect to see in fashion editorials, magazines, fashion weeks and even on the streets, in their day-to-day lives.
Some of the beauty prophecies are yet to come through while the rest have seen the light of day this year. A few of them are making a come back (unsurprisingly) and the rest are a whole new spin/take to the world of glam.
It’s now April, the fourth month of the year and the first month in the second quarter of 2024, and there have been some slight buzz on what to expect from makeup artistes this season. My TikTok FYP has been awash with the makeup trends that might be mainstream this quarter and I can’t say that I haven’t caught the excitement bug.
Whether you’re a die-hard glam fanatic or just looking to stay up-to-date on the beauty trends, this article is for you so stick around.
The Beauty Trends
Aquamarine Eye Makeup:
According to Pinterest, the Aquamarine makeup is making a comeback this year and who knows, it might fully takeover this quarter. Millennials and Gen Zs are the two major demographics searching for inspiration on how to incorporate the 60s makeup style in their beauty routines.
From eyeliners to eye shadow palettes, this blue shade makeup is hitting it big this year. A-list Hollywood celebrities like Rihanna, Priyanka Chopra, Hailey Bieber, Alexa Demie (from Euphoria), and Lily Collins have tried their hands at this trend and they all ate the looks respectively.
Skinny/Thin Eyebrows:
Ashley Okoli and Doja cat immediately come to mind as the champions of this look. I know some girlies prefer their brows thick and full but there is something about the thin brows that is undoubtedly appealing, to me at least.
This beauty trend blew up in the early 2000s a.k.a the y2k era and if you grew up in Nigeria, the Nollybabes sported this look a lot back then, that it has now a trademark look for those early years.
Right now though, this look is making a comeback after being shunted aside for fuller, thick brows. The thin/skinny eyebrows trend involves completely shaving off your eyebrows and using thin eye pencil to draw thin, arched or straight lines above your eyelids.
Rhinestones:
I like to think that Euphoria had a hand in popularising this beauty look (Cue actresses: Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie etc). It is not a new trend but it has seen a resurgence in Nigeria of late and in pop culture.
Popular Nigerian influencers like Priscilla Ojo and Spirine Chevy have been spotted serving in these looks. On TikTok, creators are giving tips on how and where to wear this look this season. Now that it is Springtime, a garden -themed photoshoot featuring this look will slay, don’t you think?
