Just weeks after he had led the team to the club’s first trophy in 17 years by beating Manchester United for the Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with their manager, Ange Postecoglou.
Despite the Europa League win, the disaster that hit them in the Premier League was bad, and Spurs finished their campaign in the 17th position with 38 points-opposite of their worst top-flight finish since 1976/77. According to a club statement, “following a review of performances,” the board was unanimous in their decision that a change had to be implemented. The board felt that although the Europa League trophy was a historic occasion, this could not outweigh the domestic failings.
In 2023, the year he came in, Postecoglou planted the seeds of success by winning first 10 out of 10 league matches, and then finishing fifth in his debut season. But in 2024/25, thereafter came the injuries and a dip in form, causing rapid declines in fortunes as Spurs lost 22 of their 38 league games post-Christmas without a single win against any top-six opposition.
In a snippet of the goodbye, Postecoglou stated he was proud to have been a part of the club. He thanked the supporters and players alike for this being a “dream come true” victory in Bilbao.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank is reportedly the one most strongly in line for a job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to replace the Australian.
