Manchester City lost a 52-game unbeaten run at the Etihad as a sensational Tottenham Hotspur beat Pep Guardiola’s men 4-0 in the Premier League to further extend their losses in all competitions to five successive ones.

City started brightly, with Erling Haaland denied early by Guglielmo Vicario. However, Spurs quickly seized control, with James Maddison volleying in Dejan Kulusevski’s cross to open the scoring. Just seven minutes later, Maddison doubled Tottenham’s lead, calmly dinking past Ederson after a clever one-two with Son Heung-min. City struggled to break through Tottenham’s makeshift defensive pairing of Radu Drăgușin and Ben Davies, despite occasional flashes of danger.

The second half brought further misery for the hosts as former City player Pedro Porro made it 3-0, converting Dominic Solanke’s cut-back. City’s attempts to respond saw Haaland strike the crossbar and Joško Gvardiol’s effort blocked, but Tottenham continued to exploit transitions. Substitute Timo Werner set up Brennan Johnson for a stoppage-time fourth, capping a flawless Spurs performance.

That defeat, City’s first at home since November 2022, leaves them five points behind leaders Liverpool with a game extra played. For Tottenham, the emphatic win lifts them to sixth in the table, re-igniting their European hopes.
