At least nine people have died on Thursday after a fire blazed through a hospital in southern Taiwan, according to the island’s fire agency said.
According to an online post by the fire agency, the blaze occurred in Pingtung County and was reported at around 7:40 am. It was eventually put out at about 1 pm,
Eight victims were reported dead after being taken away for treatment, and another was later found dead at the scene, according to the agency.
The fire had broken out at the same day Typhoon Krathon made landfall in the island’s south, although Taiwanese authorities had not linked the two.
Typhoon Krathon had forced schools and offices to shut for a second day amid strong winds and heavy rain that left two people dead and over 100 persons injured.
