Real Madrid had been in contact with Alexander-Arnold since January having seen their interest rebuffed by Liverpool in the January transfer window. A boyhood supporter of Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold helped lead Jurgen Klopp’s revolution, securing a Premier League title and Champions League title for the club.
Considering his aspirations of club captain, it is a huge miss on the field of play. He said in September: “I’ve always said that I want to be captain of the club. That is a goal of mine.” But joining Real Madrid will see him come into another European Super Club as the latter continue upgrading their roster.
