Some of the officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, -LASTMA, have been reportedly attacked and brutalized by tricycle operators in Ojota, Lagos State.
This was revealed in a statement given to Sahara Reporters by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director, of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, on Tuesday, December 20. Taofiq additionally said that the LASTMA officers were robbed during the attack.
The statement read, “Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, were attacked with dangerous weapons while on official duties at Ojota by members of Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) Ojota Branch on Sunday, 19th of December, 2022.
“The LASTMA Officers were attacked with harmful weapons including cutlasses and had to abandon their duty posts after one of them was seriously injured.”
The injured officer Oguntimehin Ajibola sustained an injury on his left eye and is currently on admission at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
Meanwhile, preliminary investigations have revealed that at least 20 members of the TOAN, Ojota Branch, had been involved in the attack on the officers after learning that the Toyota Camry of their newly elected Chairman (Ojota Branch), had been detained for illegal diversion by LASTMA Officials at Ojota.
The General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, has confirmed that the matter had been reported at the Area ‘H’ Command of the Nigeria Police, Ogudu and that efforts are being made to identify and apprehend all those involved in the unjustified attack.
