The Bureau of Public Enterprises -BPE has shared its reason for the non-payment of the former staff of the SkyPower Aviation Handling Company Limited -SAHCOL, their severance packages.
On November 18, 2018, the BPE had an agreement with 982 former staff of SAHCOL regarding the payment of N1.8 billion severance packages following their sack by new owners of the firm now Skyway Aviation Handling Company i.e SAHCO Plc.
However, the former staff of the company has yet to receive any payment since then and the BPE cited lapses in the compulsory contribution to the Treasury Single Account -TSA as the reason for the delay.
Meanwhile, in a memo to the aggrieved staff, BPE had explained that letters had been written to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, but no positive response had been seen from the ministry.
The BPE’s failure to pay the severance packages to the ex-workers has sparked fear of possible discontent in the aviation industry as the ex-workers have been demanding their entitlements to be paid.
