A recent NBC News survey shows that most voters are less likely to back a presidential candidate who supports universal tariffs, which was a key part of Donald Trump’s economic plan.
The survey, done from October 4-8, asked 1,000 registered voters and found that 44% would be less likely to vote for someone who supports a 20% tariff on imports from all countries.
Even though many people don’t like his tariff plan, Trump still believes in it, saying it could help bring manufacturing back to the U.S. and create jobs here.
“The higher the tariff, the more likely a company will come to the U.S. and build a factory here, so they don’t have to pay the tariff,” Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait at the Economic Club of Chicago.
Trump’s plan includes putting a 20% tariff on all goods from all countries, with a special 60% rate for certain items.
