During a campaign rally Last Saturday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on Saturday, Vice-President Kamala Harris vowed to abolish federal taxation on gratuities paid to employees in the service industry; this is in line with an earlier plan suggested by the former President Donald Trump.
Harris, who had received an endorsement from the Culinary Workers Union Local 226, promised that she would keep fighting for working families by raising minimum wage and by abolishing taxation on tips given to service and hospitality personnel.
However, Trump promptly reacted through social media platforms arguing that Harris was “stealing” his policy. He added that she had no inventive ideas and all she did was mimic his proposals for her own political gain.
During a visit to Las Vegas in June, Trump presented his plan of scrapping taxes imposed on gratuities saying, “For those hotel workers and people who get tips, you are going to be very happy…I am going not to charge tax on tips.”
The move has generated debates around whether or not Trump is serious about implementing it, unlike his commitment towards the proposal being made by Harris.
