Hopes of a NATO invitation for Ukraine seem to have dimmed, with officials in Kyiv worried that Trump might cut back on U.S. aid. The Biden administration might try to rush in more support before the Trump era officially begins, but the uncertainty is palpable. The Kremlin, meanwhile, says it’s open to talks with Trump, but its demands remain unchanged: Ukraine must drop its NATO ambitions and withdraw its forces from territories Russia has claimed. For Kyiv, this is a non-starter and looks a lot like surrender.
