Former Labour Party Campaign Director-General, Doyin Okupe, has urged Nigerians to refrain from hastily judging President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Okupe emphasized the importance of patience.

Okupe, who left the Labour Party on January 8 due to ideological differences after the 2023 election, also faced a conviction in December 2023. The Federal High Court in Abuja found him guilty of money laundering involving N700m, following prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He said, “You can never and should never judge this administration like you judged other administrations. Because this is an abnormal situation in which this administration came to life. “After such a poor economy for eight years, the government and governance were abandoned. Things became so bad. That was the point at which this administration came in. People are forgetting

He also stated that among all the candidates in the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu stood out in terms of capability and commitment.
“Let me tell you, of all the people that ran for president in 2023, by the benefit of hindsight, Bola Tinubu is the best.

“I have seen Peter Obi, I have been with Atiku Abubakar, I also knew Bola Tinubu many years ago.
“I have not seen him in the last 7 to 8 years, but he is the best in terms of capability, commitment, and knowledge. People keep underestimating what he did in Lagos.

Okupe then expressed agreement with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stating that shutting down the national grid is a treasonable offense. He emphasized that switching off a nation’s national grid is unacceptable.

However, he also noted that the situation should not have arisen in the first place and questioned the government’s security and intelligence measures. He criticized labor actions for taking politics too far and argued that while making a point is valid, it should not involve halting government functions. Lastly, he condemned the shutdown of the national grid as evil, sinful, unacceptable, and criminal.
