The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria -TUC), on Thursday, October 13, urged private organizations and individuals to join hands with the government in providing humanitarian support for the individuals affected by floods in the country.
Mr. Festus Osifo, the TUC President, had made the plea in a statement in Abuja.
In Nigeria, at least 30 states have witnessed floods due to heavy rains and overflow of the Benue and Niger rivers, with the most affected states being: Jigawa State, Kebbi State, and Kogi State.
Additionally, FG had announced earlier this October that over 500 persons had been reported dead and 45,249 houses ravaged by floods.
Considering these worrisome statistics, Osifo had appealed to corporate oorganizationsand other well-to-do individuals to provide support for those who had been rendered homeless by the floods.
The TUC president had also appealed to the federal government to ensure that the release of water from the Kiri, Kainji, Jebba, and Shiroro dams did not worsen the already critical flood situation in the country.
