In a case that has had residents of UK compelled, Axel Rudakubana, an 18-year-old from Banks, Lancashire, has had ‘not guilty’ pleas entered on his behalf at Liverpool Crown Court. Rudakubana is accused of the brutal murders of three young girls in Southport, a crime that surprised the UK and led to widespread unrest.
The incident occurred in July when Rudakubana allegedly attacked a dance class, resulting in the deaths of six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar. That attack had also left ten others injured, including children and adults.
During the court proceedings, Rudakubana made her appearance via video link from Belmarsh prison. He did not respond when asked to enter pleas to the 16 charges against him –including three counts of murder, ten counts of attempted murder, and possession of a kitchen knife. As a result, the judge directed for “not guilty pleas” to be entered on his behalf.
This case has drawn significant media attention, with many questioning the motives behind the attack. It was also revealed that Rudakubana was additionally charged with producing ricin and possessing an al-Qaeda training manual, all of which raised concerns about potential religious extremist influences.
His trial is all set to begin on January 20th, and the proceedings are expected to last four weeks.
