The UK government has promised to clear up all the modern slavery cases that haven’t been solved yet within two years. This will give important help to the victims. Jess Phillips, the Minister for Safeguarding, talked about these changes during an event for Anti-Slavery Week.
“The people who survived modern slavery and the terrible things they went through haven’t gotten the attention and help they should have. That’s going to change,” Phillips said. “The steps I’m announcing today are the first move towards putting survivors first and getting rid of the backlog of modern slavery cases. This will give victims the clear understanding and peace they need to move on with their lives.”
As part of these changes, the Home Office will hire 200 more people to handle the many cases. They want to make the wait time shorter for decisions through the National Referral Mechanism.
