The Federal Government of Nigeria has agreed to the re-opening of the Seme land border for the importation of vehicles. This announcement was made by the Director of Road Transport, Ministry of Transportation, Ibrahim Musa, on Wednesday, June 21.
Musa, while speaking at an Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, meeting planned between officials of both the Nigeria and Benin Republic, had revealed that the development had come after several complaints had been made by the freight forwarders working at the Seme border.
Additionally, Dera Nnadi, the Customs Area Controller of Seme Border Command, had spoken up at the event, bemoaning the reduction in revenue from the freight service since the importation of vehicles through the land borders was interrupted by the Buhari’s administration.
This is a great move as the revenue generated from the Seme border would serve to help the nation’s economy if it is fully utilised.
