The curtains have closed on a beloved figure in Nigerian entertainment – veteran actor, poet, and singer Jimi Solanke. The 81-year-old legend sadly passed away on Monday, leaving a void in the hearts of many.

News of his passing came after a period of ill health, with Solanke reportedly entering and leaving hospitals since December. While death eventually claimed him, his vibrant spirit and countless contributions to the world of arts live on.

From gracing stages with his powerful performances in plays like “Kongi’s Harvest” and “Sango,” to enchanting audiences with his soulful melodies, Solanke was a multi-faceted talent affectionately known as “Uncle Jimi.”

His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes, with many remembering his infectious smile, captivating storytelling, and dedication to his craft. Hon. Dickson Awolaja, representing Remo North in the state assembly, echoed the sentiment, calling Solanke’s death “another big loss” and praising his contributions to the nation.

While grief hangs heavy, we celebrate the life and legacy of this remarkable artist. Jimi Solanke may be gone, but his impact on Nigerian culture and the memories he created will forever resonate. May he rest in peace, and may his spirit continue to inspire future generations of artists.
