The Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the 14th governing Council, the University of Calabar, UNICAL, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (retired) has expressly condemned the discovery of massive certificate forgeries rocking the university at present.
On Monday, August 12, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), invalidated the certificates of about 101 individuals who had allegedly been fraudulently mobilized for national service by UNICAL during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years.
The NYSC had described its action as a major crackdown on certificate fraud and a step towards ensuring the integrity of the national youth service program.
The Vice-Chancellor, Ekpoudom had during an interview with newsmen, alleged that officials of the varsity are blameable and that they are going to severely deal with those identified.

“My belief is that those behind the crime are not far from University staff. We have since started investigations to uncover those behind this.”“NYSC has done very well to have uncovered this forgery. This is just the first phase. The next phase is for us to find out those behind this saga.”
“I can confirm that those people are not students of UNICAL. These guys are criminals.” He reiterated.
