The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State is working with local security agencies to investigate the death of Favour Okenyi, a 100-level student whose body was discovered in a campus drainage. Okwun Omeaku, the acting Public Relations Officer, shared this update in a statement received by PUNCH Metro.
Reports indicate that Favour, a first-year Medical Laboratory Science student, went missing after a chemistry practical session. Her body was later found near the Eni Njoku male hostel, close to the university’s stadium junction, on Friday evening. Videos and photos of the scene have been widely circulated on social media.
Omeaku described the incident as shocking and expressed the university’s condolences to Favour’s family. He emphasized that UNN is cooperating with security agencies to investigate the circumstances of her death and to implement measures to prevent similar tragedies.
The university community was deeply affected by the discovery on Friday, July 5, near the Akanu Ibiam Stadium. UNN’s administration extends heartfelt sympathies to Favour’s family, mourning the loss of such a promising student.
Efforts are ongoing to uncover the details of her death and bring any responsible parties to justice. Despite attempts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, for further comment, there has been no response to calls and messages sent on Sunday and Monday.
