A young woman, believed to be a University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) student, has reportedly died after being pushed by unidentified individuals at a hotel in Enugu metropolis. Enok Utazi, the Student Union President, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the victim’s studentship is still under investigation. He stated that while there are claims she was a student, the Students Union Government (SUG) is working with the police to verify these claims.
Utazi said efforts are ongoing to ascertain the victim’s studentship, and the police are involved in the investigation. He emphasized the union’s commitment to serving and ensuring the safety of all students regardless of their background.
According to social media sources, the victim, Favour Eze, was allegedly pushed from a hotel balcony by some individuals. However, UNN’s Director of Students Affairs, Prof. Edwin Omeje, stated that no such incident had been reported to the university and there were no reports of missing students.
Attempts to get a statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as he had not responded to inquiries at the time of this report.
On July 8, it was reported that UNN management confirmed the death of a first-year student, Favour Okenyi, from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science. Her body was found in a drainage near Akanu Ibiam Stadium within the university premises. The university’s acting Public Relations Officer, Okwun Omeaku, expressed the community’s deep shock and sadness over the tragic loss.
