The huge explosion that rocked the Nigerian city of Ibadan has killed two people and injured 77 others as at this time.
Rescue and recovery efforts are atill ongoing in seven residwntial areas in the state.
The cause of the blast remains unclear, but the authorities have claimed that it may have been triggered by mining explosives stored in a now destroyed house.
Photos from social media have shown buildings reduced to almost rubble and vehicles damaged by shrapnel.
Gruesome videos have since been shared on social media, with one witness reporting that a mall had been destroyed in Bodija, a residential district of the city. This report is still yet to be verified by the local authorities.
The police have promised a swift inquiry into the explosion.
Seyi Makinde, the State governor had said that Preliminary investigations by the security agencies have revealed that unlawful miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which led to the massive blast.”
