Popular Nigerian social media critic, VeryDarkMan, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of seizing his phone and gaining access to his private data, following his recent arrest over alleged financial crimes.
In a video shared on his social media page, the activist, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, expressed frustration over being logged out of his iCloud account—an indication that the EFCC may now have access to his personal videos and stored evidence.
He alleged that despite being released, the agency still has not returned his device, and he doubts they ever will. “I have a strong feeling they won’t return the phone,” he said, suggesting the phone is now compromised even if handed back.
VeryDarkMan also sent a clear warning to the EFCC, urging them not to publish his photo with any caption linking him to money laundering. According to him, such a move would lead to a legal battle.
“If I see my picture on your website with a caption suggesting money laundering, you’ll have to prove it,” he warned, adding that the issue would be resolved in court if it escalated.
While he claimed to be open to having a “friendship” with the EFCC, he insisted that any attempt to damage his reputation through misleading posts would not be tolerated.
