There are indications that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may release popular social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, on Tuesday.
The Nation also gathered that there are intentions to formally arraign him in court on Thursday.
A high-ranking official from the anti-graft agency, who requested to remain unnamed, confirmed the update on Monday. The official noted that although Otse is still in custody, he has not yet been officially charged in court.
It’s worth noting that VDM’s arrest came after he publicly criticised the bank over alleged unauthorized transactions from his mother’s account.
Deji Adeyanju, Otse’s legal representative, confirmed the arrest on X, mentioning that VDM was taken into custody alongside his friend, C Park, by a team of policemen.
On Monday, youths in Abuja organised a protest in response to the activist’s arrest.
Protesters marched from the EFCC headquarters to a commercial bank, carrying placards that called for VeryDarkMan’s release and raised questions about President Tinubu’s possible involvement.
The protesters condemned the arrest and detention of VDM as unlawful, demanding transparency and pledging to escalate their concerns to the Nigerian Human Rights Commission.
