Martin Tyler, the iconic voice of the Premier League, is retiring from his role as a soccer commentator at Sky Sports, bidding farewell to over three decades of bringing the excitement of the Premier League to households across the nation.
Throughout his illustrious career, the 77-year-old veteran has provided commentary for countless matches, spanning the Premier League, Champions League, and international tournaments. One of his most unforgettable moments includes his famous “Aguero-o-o-o!!” description of Sergio Aguero’s title-winning goal for Manchester City on the final day of the 2011-12 season.
Tyler’s tenure at Sky coincided with the entire history of the Premier League, which commenced in 1992. Prior to that, he honed his skills at ITV, where he was part of the broadcasting team for the 1978 World Cup. He also led ITV’s commentary team during the 1982 World Cup and 1984 European Championships, in addition to covering the 1986 World Cup. In 1990, he joined British Satellite Broadcasting’s Sports Channel, which later merged with Sky.
Sky Sports announced that Tyler would be departing from the organization before the start of the upcoming season.
