Volkswagen AG has announced a big change plan, which includes closing at least three factories in Germany and cutting many jobs. This change is needed because people are buying fewer cars and there is more competition in Europe.
Daniela Cavallo, Volkswagen’s works council head, said the company is serious about making these changes. The plan affects different factories, like Zwickau, Dresden, and Wolfsburg.
Volkswagen says there are problems in the car industry, like less demand and more competition. The main changes they will make are:
- Reducing production costs
- Combining cars with similar designs across different factories
This change comes after the German government stopped giving money to businesses to buy electric cars, which affected Volkswagen’s sales.
Volkswagen’s Zwickau factory will make fewer ID.3 and Cupra Born electric cars. In Dresden, they will stop making ID.3 cars for two weeks in October.
