Since its release in November 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever from Marvel
Studios has broken all previous records at the box office by being the first movie to
gross one billion Naira in Nigeria.
This was revealed in a statement made on Sunday by FilmOne, Nigeria’s top
blockbuster distributor, and The Walt Disney Company Africa.
Given that the superhero movie is based on the Marvel Comics character Black
Panther, it should be noted that the cast and crew of the movie recently traveled to
Lagos to celebrate the release of the movie. This marked the first official premiere of a Marvel Studios production in an African country outside of Nigeria.
Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, and local artists that appear in the movie attended the black carpet premiere event on November 6, 2022, along with dignitaries and visitors.
The film has won praise from critics for its captivating plot, breathtaking special effects, and brilliant cast.
The success of the film is a testament to the power of narrative and the ongoing
popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to Christine Service, Senior Vice President and General Manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa.
