West Ham announced Monday that it has acquired Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta from French club Lyon for a “club-record” sum. The Hammers did not disclose the price of the transfer, but they did say Paqueta has signed a five-year initial deal with a one-year option at the London Stadium.
With only one goal in their first four Premier League games (Pablo Fornals’ winner in Sunday’s 1-0 triumph against Aston Villa), West Ham boss David Moyes should benefit from the addition of Paqueta to his attacking options. Paqueta began his professional career at Flamengo before joining AC Milan in 2019.
Before transferring to Lyon, where he had better success with 21 goals in 80 games across all competitions and also established himself as a regular in the Brazil squad, he spent the next two seasons in Serie A but only scored one goal in 37 league appearances for the Rossoneri.
