Nigerian talent manager and founder of Made Men Music Group (Triple MG), Ubi Franklin, has opened up on why female artistes signed under his label are required to avoid pregnancy for the duration of their contracts.
Speaking during an appearance on the Culture Sonic podcast, Franklin highlighted the unique challenges involved in managing female musicians and the impact motherhood can have on an artiste’s career trajectory.
He revealed that all his contracts with female signees include a “no pregnancy” clause, explaining that taking time off for childbirth can significantly derail a budding career, especially for those who haven’t yet gained a strong foothold in the industry.
“So just imagine that you’re investing in female artiste and she gets pregnant, that is over because it would take a lot for her to come back. Mention new female artistes that got pregnant and came back,” Franklin said.
“I’m not saying they can’t have children, but first build a strong career. If I am signing a female artiste, I always put it in the contract that they will not get pregnant for the duration of the contract,” he added.
Franklin’s remarks have stirred conversation online, as many debate the balance between personal freedom and professional obligations in the entertainment industry.
