The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has reportedly pressured the management of Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, to scrap the concert of Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, that was scheduled to hold September 9, 2023.
An Ethiopian woman had made this revelation during an interview with well-known Nigerian media personality, Daddy Freeze.
The woman had alleged that the concert was cancelled by the hotel management, shortly after the country’s “influential” Orthodox Church leaders had accused the Nigerian singer of being a “devil worshipper”, on account of his customised necklace.
In the artwork that was to be used for the concert, Rema had worn a custom-made necklace that had a burning church and inverted crosses, engraved on it.
The unnamed Ethiopian lady had remarked that a press release had been organized in Ethiopia about the Rema scandal.
“Yes, you can imagine it, it was a very big deal.” She had said.
In relation to this news, a lady was spotted disfiguring Rema’s Addis Ababa concert poster in a video that has since made rounds on social media platforms.
