Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has opened up about her four-year absence from the spotlight, explaining that she chose to step away from public life to focus on self-reflection, healing, and personal growth.

In a candid conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, as seen on social media on Thursday, Seyi Shay revealed that her period of isolation was a deliberate decision that completely changed her mindset and helped her evolve both emotionally and spiritually.

According to her, the journey was not just about taking a break from music, but also about reconnecting with herself on a deeper level.

Why Seyi Shay Disappeared for Four Years — Here’s What We Know

“I have done so much work over these past four years. The transformation of my mind started before I had my child. I started a journey of isolation,” she said.

“There is something really good about isolation, but I know some people say it is not good. One thing for me is that I was blessed with hindsight and I could just reflect, and I was also blessed with insight which in turn gave me foresight. I think that is the biggest gift beside my daughter that God has given me these few years that I have been away.”

The award-winning singer added that the period away from the limelight also changed how she relates with men, saying her spiritual growth helped her reach a new level of understanding and inner peace.

“My spirituality has also transformed, and I am vibrating on such a different level now that I actually feel very comfortable with men. I love all the men. It is a man’s world,” she said.

While reflecting on her personal life, Seyi Shay also addressed the curiosity surrounding her relationship with the father of her daughter. Despite their close bond and mutual respect, she explained that they are not married due to what she described as “technical reasons.”

She said, “It’s a technical issue, you understand? But he’s great, he’s cool, he’s around. He’s Nigerian, he’s in the UK at the moment, and he’s also in the music industry on the corporate side of things. We just work together, raising our child, and we are great friends.”

Seyi Shay’s interview marks her first major sit-down in years, offering fans rare insight into her life away from fame.

Her reflections highlight a period of quiet transformation and maturity—one that appears to have reshaped not only her outlook on life but also her approach to love, motherhood, and spirituality.
