Wofai Fada: Why I Put My Marriage Before Certain Acting Roles

Actress and comedian Wofai Fada has revealed that her idea of Valentine’s Day goes far beyond romance, explaining that she finds fulfilment in creating memorable moments for others.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, the entertainer said her focus every Valentine’s Day is on hospitality and service rather than personal celebration.

“What I’m looking for every Valentine’s Day is how to serve people and make them feel comfortable. Planning a Valentine’s menu, trying to get them together; you don’t even think about yourself. Over the years, every Valentine’s, this is what we do. Sometimes the experiences I’ve had were proposals. People come in, eat, propose, we play love songs for them, and sometimes we call an artist to sing for them. That’s how we enjoy ourselves—seeing others enjoy themselves,” she said.

Sharing details of her personal plans, Fada explained that she and her husband usually celebrate privately after the day’s activities, opting for a quiet romantic retreat.

“After Valentine’s Day, we plan to take a hotel room, so we can enjoy other people’s services. Everything I’m talking about is what we do most weekends, so I don’t want people to think we’re going out specifically for Valentine’s Day,” she noted.

She added that this year’s celebration holds special significance due to the opening of a new Abuja outlet of her restaurant brand, JustAfang.

“What makes this year different is that we want to see how Abuja responds to Valentine’s Day. Lagos people are outgoing, but Abuja is more laid-back. Last year, someone even proposed in Lagos at the restaurant,” she recalled.

Fada also stressed the importance of financial stability in relationships, especially when children are involved.

“Relationship without money, or marriage without money… if the couple doesn’t survive it, the kids will suffer,” she said, reflecting on her upbringing.

Speaking on misconceptions about relationships in the entertainment industry, she dismissed claims that romantic movie roles translate into real-life affairs.

“People think that because you act in love scenes, something is happening off-screen. That’s not true. I have refused roles that would create unnecessary problems because I have kids and want to protect my family,” she explained.

She further opened up about learning to balance love and ambition, revealing that heartbreak once shifted her focus toward career growth.

“As a lover girl, I was in love, dating one guy. When he broke my heart, I put my career first,” she said.

On emotional growth, Fada admitted that she had to let go of excessive independence to strengthen her marriage.

“I had to let my guard down and be an independent woman and just let the man lead. It helped me enjoy my femininity,” she added.

Sharing her philosophy on love, she likened relationships to nurturing plants.

“If you don’t water it, if you don’t give it the right nutrients, how will it blossom? You have to find love first, then nurture it. You can’t build what you have not found,” she said.

On love at first sight, the actress said her views have matured.

“When I was younger, I fell in love with a guy because of his looks. It’s very risky. At my age now, I believe we have to have a conversation. I need to know what’s in your head and where you’re going,” she added.
