A mother who gave birth on board an express train between Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa has been showered with congratulations and praises.

Kenyan citizens have been reportedly thrilled with the news after Kenyan Railways had posted the story on their social media.

The national rail firm had additionally posted photos showing one of attendants holding the new-born alongside its mother as well as those who had assisted in the delivery.

As luck may have it, a doctor and a nurse had been on board the train and were to help with the delivery.

The Kenyan Railways had posted:

“We were fortunate to have Dr Indanyenyi Luseso onboard our train who performed the delivery assisted by Ms Fauziya Lugogo, a nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital and our Madaraka Express Passenger Attendant, Ms Mary Nyiha”.

The woman and her newborn had afterwards, been taken to Mariakani sub county hospital for extended medical attention.

Several netizens have been of the opinion that the baby should be allowed free railway tickets, as was usually the case for a baby born in an aircraft, while others still, had suggested that the baby be named Madaraka, a Swahili word that means power.

Either was, it is lucky that the woman did not have a life threatening labour. It would have been quite a harrowing train experience if things had gone south!
