The Spaniard has reportedly agreed a four-year deal with Premier League side Chelsea after they were defeated by Manchester City in the FA Cup Final, and the club is believed to be on the verge of announcing Xabi Alonso as their new manager.
The London club has been in search of a new head coach since both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior left the club in the 2025/26 campaign, which has turned out to be disappointing for the club. Alonso had rapidly become one of the most preferred choices for the position with a deal likely since he travelled to London last week.
Sources say that the ex-Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen boss has accepted a four-year proposal to manage the club, and the announcement is said to be in the pipeline.

Alonso returns to the English game after an esteemed playing career where he made many achievements, including winning the Champions League with Liverpool.
The new 44-year-old head coach will take over the responsibility to rebuild the squad since his current Chelsea is currently in 9th place in the league table and is expected to miss out on European football next year.
Despite leading Bayer Leverkusen to the first Bundesliga title with an unbeaten record, Alonso experienced an early departure from Real Madrid earlier this year due to his inability to live up to the club’s expectations.
Alonso’s tactics and young player development have earned rave reviews and could be the solution for the club’s poor form, with his achievements in guiding players such as Florian Wirtz and Arda Guler receiving acclaim throughout Europe.
He is expected to get ready for a busy summer ahead to try to get Chelsea back to the top tier.
