The Yoruba movie industry is mourning the loss of actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly called Aunty Ajara, who died in the early hours of Thursday.
Her death was confirmed by her family, bringing an end to days of concern over her worsening health condition.
In a video message announcing the loss, her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, thanked colleagues, fans, and well-wishers for their support and prayers during her illness.

He also appealed to the public to stop sending funds that were previously requested to support her medical care.
“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
News of Aunty Ajara’s illness had surfaced last week after actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke publicly called for assistance, explaining that her colleague was critically ill, dependent on oxygen, and incurring heavy hospital bills.
Aunty Ajara was admired for her natural portrayal of nurturing and authoritative characters in Yoruba-language films. Her acting career spanned several notable productions, including Gingerrr, Queen Lateefah, and Isiti.
The late actress had previously shared a painful personal experience, revealing that she once lost a child — a story that resonated deeply with many of her fans.
