Adamawa State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect for the purported murder of Talatu Usman, a 36-year-old lady, and her one-year-old child in Lamurde LGA.
The suspect, Volamu Kalbes, and the victims were residents of Sabon Layi village in Lamurde LGA.
Superintendent Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, in a statement, reported that the suspect had allegedly attacked the victim at the riverside where the victim went to bathe with her child. The victim was said to have resisted all attempts by the suspect, Kalbes, to rape her but to no avail. Kalbes overpowered Usman, had his way with her, and pulled her down into the water where she drowned.
The police superintendent also said that the suspect took the baby crying nearby to the riverside where he drowned the child. Police operatives attached to Lamurde Divisional Police headquarters swooped into action and arrested the suspect after Talatu’s husband, Alhaji Usman Abdul who was mourning the loss of both wife and child, reported the suspect to the police. The Commissioner of Police, CP S.K. Akande has ordered doubled efforts until investigating the matter and has commanded the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID to take over the investigation.
