Adewale Egbedun, a 38-year-old first-time legislator representing the Odo-Otin state constituency, has been elected as the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
The nomination for Egbedun’s position came from Ibrahim Abiola of the Irewole/Isokan constituency, and it was seconded by Areoye Ebenezer from Atakumosa West and East constituency. As a first-time legislator, Egbedun’s ascent to the speakership demonstrates a promising start to his political career.
In addition to Egbedun’s election, another political novice, Akinyode Oyewusi from the Ife-North State Constituency, emerged as the Deputy Speaker. Meanwhile, Kofoworola Adewumi from Ede-North was appointed as the majority leader. Notably, three incumbent lawmakers from the PDP, namely Tajudeen Adeyemi (Ifelodun), Adewumi Adeyemi (Obokun), and Olaide Ajibola (Olorunda), did not secure any principal offices.
Speaker Egbedun emphasized in his inaugural speech his commitment to revising outdated legislation and introducing new bills that promote innovative ideas for the advancement of the social sector of the economy.
In his address prior to the Assembly’s inauguration, Governor Ademola Adeleke appealed for the support of the lawmakers in delivering the dividends of democracy to the masses in the state.
